CASTRA RUBRA

Castra Rubra is a new winery that was founded in the years 2000 by the Agopian brothers. With a surface area of 250 hectares, Castra Rubra is located in the south-east of the Thracian Valley on the Sakar mountain. The climate is Mediterranean thanks to the influence of the warm wind that blows in from the Mediterranean.

Castra Rubra is even the emblem of the new generation of Bulgarian producers: a judicious choice with regard to the placement of the vineyards and the modern, high-quality vinification by gravity.

Their showpiece wine is “Via Diagonalis”, which bears the name of the famous road that connected Rome with Constantinople. It is an excellent assemblage of varieties from the Bordeaux (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and Bulgaria (Mavrud, Rubin). Strong yet delicate, this is one of the best wines from Bulgaria.
Via Diagonalis has been produced under the supervision of the world famous wine maker Michel Rolland...
